For a design of a Web site, there are many WYSIWIG HTML-Editors that can be used, for instance Netobjects Fusion, Macromedia Dreamweaver which can be used on any Web hosting platform or Microsoft Frontpage 2002, which is used primarily on Web hosting platforms using Active Server pages or more recently ASP.NET, where we can see an emerging number of Web Hosting companies that offer this newer technology, although the price offering for these platforms are still quite high. The creation of Web pages is very easy, using these kind of editors, as there are hardly any HTML programming knowledge necessary as the whole page is created in a design view and the corresponding HTML code is created automatically. This has the big disadvantage though, that the writer doesn't have the full control over the created HTML code. This is especially true when custom script code is to be used in a web page.

To have full control over writing HTML-code, you can use any ASCII-editor, for instance even notepad, although using this editor can become quite tedious, especially when looking for errors. Therefore there are HTML-Editors that use colour highlighting for the known and predefined HTML Tags. Additionally they have tools for easy insertion of links, images, tables, list, frames and other HTML related objects. Using these editors, the writer has still full control over the HTML-code that he writes, as there isn't any HTML code created automatically. Of course the disadvantage of using these kind of editors, is the long time it takes to create a Web Page. But it's worth it, as one is absolutely independent of any restrictions that the former editors that were mentioned, may apply. I primarily use CoffeeCup HTML Editor. It's a very easy to be used editor and it has a lot of tools for easy insertion of HTML Tags.

In the design of my web site I have used three frames. The upper frame is a fixed size frame, which is used for the banner. In the left frame I use DHTML for the menu structure for the table of contents. By using DHTML, the menu tree can be navigated dynamically without reloading the page in the left frame. This leads to a very comfortable navigation of the table of contents. The big frame in the center is responsible for displaying all the contents listed in the table of contents. Currently the javascript code I use for DHTML, only works reliably with Internet Explorer 5.0 and above. The methods used don't work with Netscape or Mozilla but anyone willing to help to get the code working for Netscape as well, is welcome to help me out. Meanwhile I will also implement a toc (table of contents) structure without DHTML, so that visitors using Netscape can also enjoy this site. I have used and will continue to use Paint Shop Pro 7.0. It's not very expensive, but it has everything you need, for editing digital pictures to be used in web sites. Additionally I have used Image Composer 1.5 which was included with Microsoft Frontpage 98. I have used it to create the logo "Island Zakynthos". The name of the TrueType font that I have used is Silverplate. which can be obtained from the web site of ArtToday.com Inc. You have to be member though.
